Annual Dog Walkathon - Saturday, May 1, 2010
The dog walkathon is an annual event that attracts thousands of people and pets from in and around southwest Michigan. The Walkathon exists to raise money through walkers who collect donations for walking around beautiful Prairie View Park and for encouraging responsible pet ownership by supplying access to vendors and businesses that promote animal health.
The Walkathon includes a flying disc competition, micro chipping, a children’s area, a pet adoptathon, pet photographs, contests, several animal demonstrations, and lots of good food and fun for the whole family. The Walkathon is in its 26th year and is the largest event the Kalamazoo Humane Society sponsors each year.
Reverse Raffle Dinner - Friday, November 5, 2010
This is a unique and fun evening. Here’s the twist: instead of the first ticket drawn winning big, it's the LAST ticket drawn that will take home the $3,500 Grand Prize! There are also 15 other cash prize winners from $100 to $500 awarded throughout the game, making your odds even greater. Sale of raffle tickets is limited to 200. Raffle tickets are $100 each and include a buffet dinner and all beverages. Meal only tickets are $35 (of which $10 is tax-deductible). In addition to the reverse raffle drawing, there are a number of side raffle drawings and prize giveaways. Proceeds from the event benefit the Operation Fix-It low-cost spay and neuter program.
Holiday Arts & Crafts Show - December
Each year volunteers make crafts and donate them to the Kalamazoo Humane Society to sell at the huge Craft Show held at Wings Stadium in early December. The crafts are inexpensively priced making them great gift items for the holidays. All proceeds support our animal welfare programs.
Lights of Love - 1st Friday in December
During October to December, individuals or families can make a donation in honor or memory of a pet. For each memorial gift given for a pet, a white light is placed on our Lights of Love tree. Each honorary gift will be represented by a colored light on the tree. An official lighting ceremony, complete with refreshments, is held in December each year.
